A fun old fashioned rpg with simple but solid combat and a refreshing amount of lore to the world and some characters. It does get repetitive after a while though, and the lack of an endgame gives players little reason to keep playing. There's a lot of potential though, looking forward to the next content update. IHonestly probably my favorite mobile game. It's simple, easy to get into, has great replayability, easy to play anywhere, and honestly just pretty fun. It can be frustrating when you have to restart from the beginning, but that doesn't overshadow the game's strong points. The combat is fun and takes some strategy, especially with how different units attack, which makes it interesting and allows you to actually strategize and set things up. The whole thing is really personizable, which I think is important to an RPG like this. And as well, it's got that old video game graphic feel with writing that fits perfectly for a medieval adventure game. All in all, a pretty great game. Full Review

Great, challenging game. Although I wish there was a way to figure out combat difficulty in encounters before you decide to take them on or pay their tolls, etc. I appreciate how the background stories of the characters aren't generic. More classes would be nice too. While it may not be the vision that you're going for, I would appreciate some kind of mechanism to reward replaying. Like a inheritance/buff feature. Or some sense of continuity without removing permadeath, of course. Full Review

Awesome! Reminds me of an old DOS game. I would like for a little more depth and opportunity for party and character development, maybe an inventory system. The quests and towns are also very repetitive, so I'd like to see some variation. It's a great start though! Full Review

I love this game, but I would love some new things. Like being able to buy an upgrade for a fencer like you can with your archer and man at arms. Also, could you put names on the Monasteries? It kind of annoys me when I'm escorting a monk to a certain Monastery and then it turns out the one I travelled so far to was the wrong one. Also, could you add upgrades? Like minor things that increase your party member's health and stuff. That's all of my problems with the game, but they're minor. Full Review

Loved the gameplay and the plot. I would love to see more complicated missions, and complex war kind of scenarios (like war between two cities and you support one). Regular missions become repetitive after a while Full Review

The gameplay is very good and exciting, hence the five star rating. But it does get repetetive after a while, considering you're just repeating the same recycled quests over and over. Combat is difficult but not impossible, but i cant figure out what resolve is supposed to do. Altogether a fun game. Full Review

I wanted to give this game 5 stars. The battles are great. Thinking strategically can allow you to overcome some pretty bad odds, and the plans for the future sound pretty epic. My biggest gripe is, "what's the goal?" I do some missions, I buy what I can and I unlock another part of the map. Then I just get more towns that give me the same missions? There should be some sort of end game like a final boss or an organization to take down or something. The only measure of progress is an arbitrary number. I got to late game and was like, "now what?" Eventually died of apathy. Not how I like to leave a game. Full Review

Love the challenge of the combat system on the more open battlefields with water and pits. Dislike how the narrow paths in some battles (especially forests) limit the choices and strategy options. Random quest system works pretty well. Keen to see what's next. Full Review

The game is very entertaining however would like to see options to upgrade the party as purchasing weapons and armor doesn't feel like it helps enough when you are facing off groups of 6-8 enemies. Also the game is amazing so far but wish there was some way to increase the resolve of your party Full Review

I like a good challenge and all, but automatically saving after every move kinda pisses me off. I'd rather save manually, so I don't have to keep going through the same quests over and over again when I inevitably die. I get automatic saves in a game meant for short playthroughs and replayability, but Occidental Heroes is not that kind of game. I like the difficulty, though, even if it does get me really, incredibly angry now and then. Battles are nice and challenging, and keep me on my toes. Further, the resolve mechanic seems a little harsh, especially since there seems to be no way of increasing it and only many ways to decrease it. Also, I can't seem to find the beta anywhere. Fantastic game: simple to get into and incredible frustrating to lose. It could do with some more progress, like new maps and areas to travel to, in which other boons can be obtained, or harder battles can be fought. Maybe a higher, clearer goal would help to get rid of the 'I think I beat this game an hour ago, but I hope there is any value to me hording up all this money'. Full Review

As a work in progress, this is a great little game. However, the lack of content quickly becomes apparent. Encounters become stale and repetitive, quests become redundant, and the world becomes boring. It was a 10/10 start though, I'll say that much. The deep and interesting writing pulls you in. The combat is strategic and interesting. It's all just becomes too repetitive. Full Review

Excellent! This game deserves more downloads and more public attention. As a game dev myself I'd recommend writing an aso-optimized description and localizing to at least 10 languages. And add ads for some monetization. Oh and make a nicer start screen in the game... This game is great inside but cares too little for its marketing - it's unfair :) Full Review

Great Strategy Game for such a small memory footprint. 😌 Liked:Addictive Gameplay. Game is text based. Each text eg text of city creates beautiful image of city. Each character has strength and weakness. Graphics are simple but effective 😘Improvements Upgrades are limited . Eg. Archers can be given armour in hinterland. More map can be added. May be water transport to new cities will be interesting. The Yankee settlement may offer some task etc Overall a very good free game. Full Review

Great little strategy game. A shame it is essentially incomplete- it has the promise of a rich storytelling RPG mixed with a roguelike feel, but its quests are superficial and it has no music. But it is entertaining all the same. I guess the developer lost interest...? I eagerly await its next version! Full Review

Fun, simple controls with unexpected depth. I have run into one problem, though - I seem to be losing my pack animals any time I take an escort mission, which is super annoying, since 200 gold is quite a lot. I also dislike that the fencer doesn't have any purchasable upgrades, making it objectively the worst class, despite his versatility in combat. Full Review

Very fun tactical sandbox RPG. Setting is unique low-fantasy, reminds me of low level B/X D&D. Combat is brutal and dangerous. I feel like I've done everything there is to do so far, so I don't always keep the game on my phone, but i check back looking for updates often. Full Review

The game is great and has a pretty "classic" feel. I'm very excited about the next major update! Oh, and I'd suggest a reputation system; like reputation on natives, on soldiers, monks, thugs, etc. that would change depending on decisions, and how many the party has killed. Also, the reputation would determine enemy aggression and frequency, perks, disadvantages, special items, etc. Just my suggestion though, since you plan on bringing the game's system to a whole other level. A few things that piss me off. 1st, how do I gain my resolve? If you keep saying my boys have permanently damaged their resolve, can I fix it? 2nd, how can I prepare for a storm that's gonna make my 200 GP pack animals run away? And 3rd, it shouldn't matter what type of person it is, the Pass Turn move is crucial in games like this. Apart from that it is a challenging game but also a little unfair. Full Review

I'm enjoying the game, but when I get to a stable point of the game I keep getting killed by groups of ten or so enemies. It feels kinda unfair, but maybe I'm just simple minded. The graphics, controls, and gameplay are great. It is a fun and challenging game. However, at some point (after getting better gear) it becomes easy and repetitive. I would like to see more personal character problems akin to the betrayed mercenary quest, and maybe a story. Also, a larger and more diverse map could bring greater challenges revolving around resource managment. I would also like to see maybe ai guilds, political problems such as other nations, and maybe being able to expand beond three members, or set up a base of operations. This game has potetial to grow, but right now it is still a very fun game. Full Review

I know this game is still developing, but it's SO good already. The style is cut from the same cloth as the old SNES RPGs and feels so nostalgic. Just a few complaints. First, I dislike the inclusion of the fight pits- they're so easy that I feel compelled to do four out of the five levels every game, which is tedious. Second, no end goal leads to dullness, especially after the Hinterlands are reached. Right now the only thing I haven't reached is Galin's injured friend (this makes sense if you've played quite a bit), and I suspect that just awards gold. All that aside, though, it's an excellent work in progress and already a lot of fun. Full Review
