Rain coming? Check Raindar! Animated Doppler radar on Google Maps for the US. Now also on Google TV and tablet!

Going somewhere and you're not sure if you need to bring your umbrella? Want to check if there's going to be fresh powder snow on the slopes in Tahoe tomorrow? Check Raindar! Raindar displays animated Doppler radar images on your Google Map. When you start Raindar it automatically focuses on your location so you can quickly see if there is precipitation coming your way. When pressing the search button on your phone you can now also search for locations within the US!

Raindar works out of the box but has many configuration options (see the recent changes page).

- green/yellow/red is rain
- blue/white is snow

Raindar can now also display storm tracks! It displays different icons for each of the 4 types of storms:

- Yellow circle: thunderstorm
- Yellow square: Hail Storm
- Yellow diamond: Rotating Thunderstorm (Mesocyclone)
- Magenta triangle: Tornado Vortex Signature (pretty heavy!)

When clicking on one of those icons a dialog will appear with detailed information.
The storm tracks also display the direction and speed of the storm in the form of an arc. The arc is split in 3 parts: 20, 40 and 60 minutes until the storm reaches that area.

On Google TV:
- Use the D-pad for navigate up/down/left/right
- Use the media forward/back or next/previous buttons to zoom in and out

Radar images and storm track data courtesy of Weather Underground. Raindar displays images from the WunderMap.

Fixed! Backed to being easily my number 1 radar app. Incompatible S4. Works great s2 This is by far my favorite radar app. Yesterday I got a new phone, a Samsung S4, will not work with this phone! I think the screen resolution is messing it up. I really need this fixed quickly. And because I Spent so much money on it I feel justified in my demands. It's only a 1 on the S4 all other phones its a 5 easy. Full Review

The first time I have ever wrote a review on any app, car or major appliance. I took you for granted Raindar, your interface and storm tracking used to be the best. No other weather radar will ever be like what you once were. It's like I lost a beloved pet or loved one. Sadly I will be deleting you. You never know how good you have it until its gone. Sad day. Not even kidding. 😥 Full Review

Best Simple Radar App Reliable precision radar I count on during severe weather and activity planning. Just radar without extra clutter. Very small file download. Always smooth animation without image skips, showing direction and speed. The map can be dragged around to change location, also zoomed in/out. Looks like AccuWeather map. For tracking, I wish I could have the yellow arrows instead of fans, it be less cluttered. Full Review

Raindar! I wanted to thank you for developing such a fantastic app, Raindar is awesome! If possible in the next release; a button to pause the animation a the most recent frame and also a menu item to refresh the map would be greatly appreciated. It's difficult to view the characteristics of a current storm when the radar is moving and sometimes the image becomes outdated frequently and must be restarted to load the new one. Feel free to consider a donate app as well, I'd gladly toss a few bucks your way. Full Review

I did love it, but... ****** Old review... I'm an amateur weather nerd, and this app allows me to track storm cells. You can click on each cell and get even more info. Great free app, keep up the good work. Galaxy nexus ****** update. For a while now it will restart my phone as soon as I tap the icon to load the app. Dunno what that is about but it's not good. UPDATE: I hope this is still Accurate, hasn't been updated in years. Did developer abandon this? Good accurate radar, nice UI. Some people complain it's a data hog, it's nothing given today's apps. I have a nexus 7 with 32GB internal memory, maybe you need to upgrade your devices and get with the times - dump the crickets. Even though there are more detailed radar apps, this one is just right for me because it is light and super fast. Two things needed: a refresh button and a widget. Update: It's been 3 years since this was updated, but it's still my go to app for radar. No it doesn't have storm tracks or lightning strikes etc..., but it's clear and fast, exactly what I need. Phone Nexus 6P, stock, 6.0.1 App has stopped displaying stormtracks. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app, turned the setting for it on and off numerous times and no change. They still work on my wife's Nexus 6. That was one of the best features about Raindar. I've had this app for a long time. Emailed the developer and never got a reply. I still use it but really miss the stormtrack feature. Full Review

The only weather app I ever need I watch the news in the morning and get my general weather info there. What the temperatures are, if there is a chance of rain, ect.. When I'm out in the field, all I care about is where the rain is in relation to me. This app has been god send. No nonsense. No fumbling through pages of information. No ads. I click the App and BAM! I know where the radar shows the rain. If I can find a way to donate, I will. This is the most important TOOL on my phone. Full Review

Excellent for what it is. I am a Meteorologist by profession. This app is the simplest, cleanest, no frills radar app that I have been able to find. No toolbars to clutter the screen, just a plain old radar app. It won't give you high res data or anything like Radarscope or Pykl3 would, but you're also not paying 10 bucks for it ;) It's my go-to when I want a simple, broad look at the radar. Know BEFORE you see it This app puts all the weather reporters to shame because it lets you see the REAL PICTURE. My grandfather would always say "if you want to know what the weather is look outside your window because those weather reporters are never going to tell you the truth." Well with Raindar you don't have to wait to see the weather outside your windows to know if it's rain or shine. I love this app. Full Review

Feature Request This program is awesome but would like to see a additional feature added to it to make it more user friendly. Its nice to have it automatically check for updates based on location change and if your location has changed it updates to radar but it should be better than that. Add this feature in this way: Add 2 options for the user to select. Option 1: update radar based on location change for those that are constantly moving or traveling using their GPS. Option 2: Update radar anytime a new update is available or check every 3-5 minutes for a update for those that may use their device at home or work where they are not moving so you don't have to constantly touch the screen or move the map to get a update. That is kinda annoying to have to do that. Add this feature and it would be a solid 5 on feedback right now I give a 4.0 Thanks Dean Full Review

Raindar Great app! Hardly any lag time in the radar. If it's on the radar, it's happening outside. Update: Still the best real time radar app I've ever found! Only thing that could be added to make it better would be real time lightning strikes. 8/30/16 My S4 is gone, have an LG G5, and the radar has stopped working as of today. Please check it. I use this app purely for the radar loop. It used to be amazing, but as of late it's like it isn't even trying to load anything. Best yet. The best weather radar app to date. No excess crap to deal with, goes straight to radar and is very accurate to within a minute or less. Great "real time" Radar. Other weather apps are usually 5-10 min behind what is actually happening in your location. This is as current a radar as I've found to actual weather event. Also gives you "base reflectivity" & other Doppler radar settings. This is critical info when living in "Tornado Alley." A BIG THANK YOU TO THE DEVELOPER! Full Review

The best basic radar app! Things I love: it's clear cell edge even when viewing microscopic/specific area (most apps when viewing closed in are pixelated or fuzzy edged. Sorry cant think of better way to say. I also appreciate storm tracks that project expected path. It is always accurate! What Im not fond of is that it rarely shows me my location marker anymore - it helps for quick peeks for updates so I can see how dangerous cells are moving (especially nice for when on the road.) Fix this and Ill rate it 5 stars! Full Review

Used to be the best! But now no storm tracks, no lightning data, radar doesn't load. I loved it because it was pure radar without the alerts and forecasts etc. I can get that from other apps if I want. The app once saw me thru severe weather season and hazardous winter driving with great accuracy and reliability and without ads but no more. Why do I need 4 apps to get the info I need? Radar is spot on for rain but needs to update every 5 minutes.
