If could block sports from even downloading (it downloads regardless of setting it just doesn't show it to you), a 5 star. A solid global reporting experience; the app itself is getting better. So far, accurate news I can verify externally. Free access to generally excellent, in depth reporting; stories that aren't "100% corporate approved, government filtered, shrink wrapped & ready for dissemination" (wouldn't want to offend an advertiser or government with actual news (can u hear us NY Times?)). Features: offline reading, selectable text (to aid in easily externally verifying facts and finding sources), suggested related articles. Ok you got me :I'm buying a subscription. Full Review

I can get the paper version free from the supermarket most days - but when I do, I find that I have already read most of it online. Then there's the comments - MOST of which are well worth reading. I've been using it for about four years now and in order that it continues, I've become a supporter. 20p per day is good value for independent journalism of this quality. , Full Review

Recent update has made the app worse (unless I've missed something). It takes ages to update to the recent articles when you re open the app after a couple of days of not using it. You can't swipe sideways between articles so you have to go back to the main page to go to the next article. The in app functions appear blank until you touch them. A poor reflection on a good newspaper. Can we go back to the older version and start again? Full Review

Update: Not loving the retro black&white theme.. Original review: Clean, tidy, and responsive. I just wish there was a way to zoom out (i know about text font, but that doesn't go far enough, or affect headings and images) - we don't all watch on a tiny phone, you know!! Full Review

I hate the new logo and graphic design. There was nothing wrong with it that a simple reformat wouldn't have accomplished. It is difficult to turn off notifications, which can be super annoying. But the new layout, the linking to related articles, greying out articles already read, links to other sources, and, of course, the writing, are absolutely stellar. So, overall, a brilliant app by a brilliant independent news source. Keep up the good work! Full Review

News and articles are good. However, I don't like the new black & white format. Also, I used to enjoy the quick crossword but there's a bug which causes the clues to be blacked out when selected. I'll continue to subscribe for now, but I'll reconsider if the bug isn't fixed soon. Full Review

The best news app by a long way and the journalism is second to none. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the new and much sleeker design. I did have a problem where mine had inadvertently defaulted to a 'compact' layout which was ugly and difficult for a visual scanner like me. If that's you, a quick change in the settings and it's back to its beautiful self! Love it Full Review

Most news apps world over are free. You charge for browsing even in app. How do you justify. There is revenue generation while one uses app, in the form of ad's, data usage and like. Isn't this revenue viable enough?. Full Review

Delighted the Guardian has fixed the problem created for android phones by the update of the app. I can now add sections to my home page. I will now resubscribe to my favourite news source. Not mad on the new format, but that is a minor niggle, the writing remains superb. Full Review

You can't change the font size on the home page which means squinting and eye strain on a small screen. Reading the articles is a pleasant enough experience (visually at any rate!) but browsing the headlines is painful. Please fix this. Full Review

Excellent breadth and depth of news coverage. Definitely the best news app I've found. I chose to make sporadic donations for this app, as I don't read it so often but you'll continue to get many reminders to donate unless you fully subscribe. Full Review

The articles are great as usual, but unfortunately the crosswords are no longer playable. With the latest update, when I click on a particular clue, it just turns into a solid black bar, therefore unreadable. As they are one of the main reasons I subscribe, I will be cancelling until an update has been issued to fix this problem. Full Review

I am a paid subscriber. I specifically selected for certain categories not to appear on my homepage: sports and super bowl. Yet on my main homepage under Headlines I see a definite real estate of 'news' related to sports = Philadelphia Eagles. Anything sports related should remain in the sports category and not deemed as top Headlines. Full Review
